Snowmobile safari & Reindeer non-riding farm visit in Levi

Snowmobile Safari & Meet the Reindeer Like a Local is a two-part Arctic adventure designed for adults and children aged 10 and up. It combines the thrill of snowmobiling through snowy forests with a peaceful and authentic reindeer experience at a traditional family-run farm. This dynamic tour offers the perfect balance of exploration, education, and relaxation — making it one of Levi’s most popular winter activities.

Part 1: Classic Snowmobile Safari.

The tour starts with a pickup from Levi and transfer to our safari house. There, you’ll gear up with thermal equipment: a snowmobile suit, boots, mittens, helmet, balaclava, and woolen socks — all designed to keep you warm and dry.

Your guide will provide a safety briefing and driving instructions. Adults ride their own snowmobiles, while children sit in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile.

The route (approx. 25 km) is scenic and easy, ideal for enjoying Lapland’s winter beauty at a relaxed pace. The ride takes about 1-1,5 hours.

A highlight of the safari is access to private trails, offering a peaceful and exclusive experience without other groups — perfect for enjoying the untouched Arctic wilderness.

Part 2: Reindeer Encounter in a traditional way at a local reindeer farm.

After approximately one hour of scenic snowmobile riding through snowy forests and across open landscapes, you will arrive directly at a traditional reindeer farm. As the snowmobiles come to a stop, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a “sea” of curious reindeer — a moment that feels both magical and authentic.

Your host, the local reindeer herder and farm owner, will greet you warmly and introduce his family and the farm’s history. This farm represents generations of traditional Lappish reindeer husbandry, where reindeer live free in nature for most of the year and are brought to the farm during the winter for feeding and care.

You will be given a bucket of feed — typically hay and specially formulated pellets — and start feeding the reindeer yourself. Moving slowly through different feeding areas, you'll have the chance to interact with dozens of semi-wild animals. Some reindeer may come close enough to touch, while others keep a polite distance, maintaining their natural instincts.

This immersive moment — walking quietly among the semi-wild animals, offering food by hand, surrounded by snowy trees and stillness — is what we call “reindeer therapy.” It's a peaceful, grounding experience that brings guests closer to Arctic nature and wildlife than ever before.

Throughout your visit, you’re welcome to take photos and capture memories. The farm itself is nestled in a scenic location, with beautiful views stretching over open bogs, snowy forests, and distant fells — a perfect backdrop for winter adventure in Lapland.

Reindeer always live free most of the year in nature and are only collected into the farm for the wintertime for proper feeding and care. Animals’ well-being is the top priority of the farmers. This is a non-riding farm — reindeer roam freely in large, fenced areas. Our groups are quite small (up to 15 people) and visits are scheduled only 2 times a day.

After spending time outdoors feeding the reindeer, you’ll be invited into a warm and cozy Lappish hut — known as a kota. Inside, wooden benches covered with reindeer hides surround an open fire, creating the perfect setting to warm up and relax.

To start, you’ll be offered a hot drink of your choice: herbal tea (naturally caffeine-free) or hot berry juice to help restore warmth and energy after time in the cold.

Then it’s time for a fun and authentic Arctic tradition: grilling your own reindeer sausages over the open fire using long sticks. This hands-on experience is a beloved part of Finnish and Lappish culture. The sausages — made from ethically sourced, local ingredients — are full of flavor and taste even better after outdoor adventure. Vegetarian or other dietary options are available upon request.

After the main course, enjoy a sweet dessert: thin and crispy pancakes topped with jam made from hand-picked Arctic berries and fresh whipped cream, served with coffee brewed over the open fire in a traditional pot. All ingredients are locally sourced, celebrating the seasonal tastes of Lapland.

While you enjoy your meal, your host will continue sharing stories about reindeer life, Sámi-inspired traditions, and the realities of Arctic living. It’s a warm, memorable conclusion to your visit — a time to ask questions, reflect, and connect with the culture of Lapland.

Before departure, try your hand at traditional lasso throwing — always a guest favorite. You’ll then receive a personal diploma as a Reindeer Herder’s Assistant.

Afterward, you’ll return to the safari house by snowmobile, change into your own clothes, and be driven back to Levi by car or minibus.

Safety Note: Reindeer Are Semi-Wild Animals

Although used to humans, reindeer remain naturally shy and may react unpredictably. Always follow your guide’s instructions. Avoid sudden movements or loud noises near the animals.

This activity is recommended for families with children aged 10 years and up, but its suitability depends on the child’s temperament and parents' supervision.

        Please consider:

        1. Outdoor Conditions
Much of the program is outside in Arctic weather for several hours. Children must be well dressed and comfortable in cold temperatures.
        2. Reindeer Behavior
Reindeer roam freely and may be startled by sudden movement or noise. They may accidentally hit someone with their antlers or hooves if frightened.      Parents are fully responsible for supervising their children at all times. Our company and the reindeer farm cannot be held liable for accidents      involving reindeer.
        3. Child’s Temperament
Calm, quiet children will enjoy this program the most. If your child is highly active, runs, shouts, or moves suddenly, the risk of an incident increases. Responsibility for such behavior lies entirely with the parents.

Make an informed decision to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all participants.
