Evening snowshoe descent from the fell to Levi village in the Arctic night — open sky above, far from village lights, the fell at its most elemental.
Night Snowshoeing in Levi — Northern Lights Search, Fell Descent in Darkness, Arctic Night Sky
Why choose this evening snowshoe tour in Levi
- Evening fell descent in complete Arctic darkness — a genuinely different experience from any daytime tour
- Position above village lights — among the better spots near Levi for northern lights viewing
- Hike ends in Levi village centre — no return transport needed
- Even without aurora: moonlit snow, stars, the silence of the dark forest
- Available December to March
Lapland after dark is a different place. The five-minute transfer to the viewpoint near the summit takes the group above the village lights and into it properly. From there, headlamps on, the guide leads the descent: 2-4 km of snowshoeing downhill through forest and open fell, finishing right at the edge of Levi village next to the main ski slopes.
In the forest, the only light is what the group carries. The trees hold the snow on their branches. The sounds disappear. When the trail opens onto the fell, the sky appears — unobstructed, dark and very large. The guide stops at a viewpoint for hot berry juice. This is the moment the tour is built around: standing on the fell in the dark, looking up, with the village glow somewhere below and the Arctic night above.
The northern lights cannot be guaranteed. They require clear skies, solar activity, and luck. But the position here — above the village, open to the north — is among the better spots near Levi for seeing them when the conditions are right. On nights when the aurora doesn’t appear, the stars and the moonlit snow make the same argument for being outside.
The descent is continuous downhill on uneven terrain. Not recommended for guests with knee problems, heart conditions or mobility limitations.
