Husky safari in a hidden forest kennel – self-drive 2 km, Levi
A peaceful, self-driven husky safari near Levi with personal kennel tour, dog interaction, and fireside refreshments in the Arctic forest
Escape into the magic of the snowy Lappish forest with a visit to a secluded husky kennel just 15 minutes from Levi. Hidden deep among the trees, this peaceful haven welcomes you with the sound of eager paws and the quiet beauty of untouched nature. From the very first moment, it feels as if you’ve stepped into a secret world, where huskies live in harmony with the surrounding wilderness.
The kennel is home to a large pack of friendly huskies — around 70 in total — including Siberian and Arctic-Alaskan huskies, as well as a few reindeer dogs. Each dog has its own name and personality, and guests are warmly introduced to the members of their team by the mushers — a personal touch that builds a real connection from the start.
Upon arrival, your guide will provide clear instructions on how to drive (mush) your own husky sled — including steering, braking, and trail etiquette. Once you're ready, you'll head to the starting point to meet your husky team, already harnessed and eagerly waiting to run.
You’ll embark on a self-driven 2 km husky safari, following a scenic trail through peaceful forest paths and open snow-covered fields. The landscape offers a different experience compared to river routes — more sheltered, quiet, and intimate. The ride lasts around 15 minutes, including a midway stop where driver and passenger can swap roles.
After the ride, take a moment to thank your team and capture photos with the dogs. You’ll then enjoy a guided walk around the kennel, meeting more of the pack and learning about sled dog training, daily life, and the deep bond between mushers and their huskies.
There’s also a special free-run area where some of the dogs can roam and play. Visitors are welcome to enter this space, pet and cuddle the huskies, and take relaxed, natural photos with them. It’s a unique chance to connect with the dogs in their own element.
To end the experience, warm up in one of the two inviting huts: a stylish insulated yurt or a traditional Lapland kota with an open fire. In both settings, you’ll enjoy hot berry juice and cookies, while hearing more about husky life in the Arctic from your hosts.
This kennel puts the well-being of the dogs first. The huskies live in spacious enclosures with plenty of room to run, rest, and socialize. Each dog receives daily care and attention, with rest days scheduled regularly to prevent overwork. Training is based on trust, motivation, and positive reinforcement — and it shows in the dogs’ enthusiasm and happiness. When harnessed, their joyful howls and wagging tails speak for themselves.
