4 hours

Moderate

Winter-Spring (21.11–19.04) An unforgettable winter adventure in Levi combining an electric fatbike ride through private snowy trails with a serene reindeer encounter, fireside lunch, and Arctic cultural insights

Season: Winter-Spring (21.11–19.04)

An exclusive Arctic adventure combining active exploration on electric fatbikes with a peaceful reindeer encounter deep in the wilderness.

This two-part winter experience is ideal for adults and older children aged 16+, bringing together an invigorating e-fatbike ride through snowy landscapes and a private cultural visit to a reindeer herder’s forest. It’s a perfect blend of activity, tradition, and Arctic atmosphere — and one of the most memorable combo adventures Levi has to offer.

Part 1: Scenic electric fat-biking ride in the private wilderness

The tour begins with a pickup from Levi and a short transfer to the starting point at the edge of the wilderness. There, your guide will help you with bike and helmet fitting, followed by a brief introduction to e-fatbike handling and safety.

Once ready, you’ll head into the forest on a 10–15 km ride along snowy trails, frozen marshes, and quiet woodland roads beneath the foothills of the majestic Kätkä Fell. The pace is adapted to the group, and you’ll stop at scenic viewpoints to rest and enjoy warm drinks.

A major highlight of this tour is the exclusive access to our private winter biking trails, built and maintained by our team from early in the season. This allows us to offer safe and enjoyable fatbiking from mid-November to April, even when other areas are inaccessible. These snow-packed trails offer true Arctic solitude, with no other riders — only you, the snowy wilderness, and perhaps a glimpse of local wildlife like reindeer, snow grouse, hares, foxes, or deer.

You’ll ride a Finnish-made Helkama FE12 e-fatbike, designed specifically for Arctic terrain and powered by a 708Wh battery, making long distances and elevation changes feel effortless.

Note: Minimum height for riding electric fat bikes: 150 cm

Part 2: Reindeer Encounter in a Secret Forest

After about an hour of biking, you’ll arrive at a remote pine and birch forest — a fully private area owned by a local reindeer herding family. This exclusive setting is known as our Secret Reindeer Forest, and no other visitors are allowed here during your visit.

As you step into the peaceful forest, reindeer from the nearby herd will begin to approach, anticipating food. You’ll be welcomed by your host — a reindeer herder — who will share stories about their life and the centuries-old tradition of Arctic reindeer husbandry.

You’ll receive a bucket of feed, typically a mix of hay and pellets, and make your way through the forest from one feeding station to another. You’ll have time to photograph, observe, and interact with these semi-wild Arctic animals. Some may come close, while others keep their distance — a natural balance of curiosity and caution in the wild.

This slow, peaceful encounter is often referred to as “Reindeer Therapy”, as it offers a deep sense of calm and connection with the natural world.

Traditional Lappish Lunch & Storytelling by the Fire

After your time outdoors, you’ll warm up inside a traditional Lappish kota — a round wooden hut with benches covered in reindeer hides and an open fire at the center.

Here, our chef will prepare and serve a three-course Arctic lunch:

  • Starter: Vegetable soup with lightly fire-toasted rieska flatbread
  • Main course: Reindeer sausage, grilled by you over the fire
  • Dessert: Thin, crispy pancakes — handmade by the chef on a pan over the open fire, served with Arctic berry jam and whipped cream

You’ll also enjoy freshly brewed pot coffee, herbal tea, or hot berry juice — all while your host continues storytelling about reindeer life through the seasons, Arctic traditions, and daily life in the far North.

Final Touch: Lasso Practice & Diploma

Before departing, step outside the kota for a fun and interactive lasso throwing session — a skill still used today in herding. Each guest will receive a Reindeer Herder’s Assistant diploma as a personal keepsake from your day in Lapland.

The return ride to the base is slightly shorter and concludes your peaceful Arctic adventure.

Important Information for Families with Kids:

This activity is recommended for families with children aged 10 and above. However, its suitability depends on your child's temperament and your commitment as parents to take extra responsibility and supervise your children closely throughout the program.

        Key Points to Consider:

        Outdoor Conditions:
The large part of the program takes place outdoors in the cold temperatures and lasts for an extended period. Ensure your children are comfortable in such conditions and dressed warmly to stay protected.

        Reindeer Interaction:
Reindeer will roam freely around the group during the activity. Parents must maintain constant supervision of their children to ensure everyone's safety. The reindeer on the farm are semi-wild animals that are not tamed to interact with humans. As such, they may become startled by sudden movements, loud noises, or a person standing too close. When frightened, the reindeer may run in a certain direction and accidentally hit a person in their path, including with their antlers or hooves. Our company and the reindeer farm are not liable for any accidents involving reindeer that may occur during the program.

        Child’s Temperament:
This activity is ideal for calm and composed children who can remain relaxed and quiet. If your child exhibits more active behavior and may engage in unexpected actions (such as running, shouting, or making sudden movements like waving their arms), the likelihood of an accident increases. Therefore, our company does not take responsibility for any potential consequences; this responsibility lies entirely with the parents.

By taking these factors into account, you can make an informed decision about whether this program is a good match for your family.
