Family snowmobile safari - with mini snowmobiles for kids, Levi

3 hours

Easy

Kids get to drive mini-snowmobiles

The Family Snowmobile Safari is a two-part adventure designed especially for families with children — combining the thrill of a snowmobile ride with a fun and safe mini snowmobile experience just for the kids. This family-friendly program offers the perfect balance of shared Arctic exploration, child-focused fun, and moments of relaxation, making it one of the most popular winter activities for families visiting Levi.

Part 1: Classic Snowmobile Safari

The experience begins with a guided snowmobile safari through the snowy landscapes of Levi. Adults drive their own snowmobiles, while children ride safely in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. The route is scenic and easy, ideal for families looking to enjoy Lapland’s winter beauty together. The length of the trail is about 25 km with trip duration about 1 hour.

Part 2: Mini Snowmobile for Children

During the stop at a private wilderness hut (kota), children will have the exciting opportunity to drive their own mini snowmobile. The ride takes place on a specially prepared track built on private land, set on a frozen open swamp. The terrain is spacious, clearly visible, and easy to navigate, with only some scattered small trees — ideal for young riders under the supervision of a guide.

Mini snowmobile is suitable for children from about 3-4 years of age and 100 cm in height — making this a fun and secure introduction to snowmobiling.

Currently 3 mini-snowmobiles are available during our family safari:

  • Smallest: Arctic Cat ZR120: for children from 3+
  • Mid-size: Arctic Cat ZR200: for children from 5+
  • Teenager: Polaris 550 Indy 121 Evo: for children from 10+

Mini snowmobiles are operated on a specially made private track under close supervision of STG guides. Speed is limited for safety. If several children of the same age participate, they will take turns in riding mini-snowmobiles. Every child can enjoy riding snowmobile during our family safari in Levi.

While the children enjoy riding, parents can relax and warm up inside the cozy private hut (kota) by the open fire, grill sausages, and sip on a warm drink (coffee or tea). After the stopover, the group returns together on snowmobiles.

Note:

  • Children drive mini snowmobiles only in the designated area.
  • During the safari route, they ride in a sleigh for maximum safety.

The tour starts with a pickup from Levi and transfer to our safari house. There, you’ll gear up with thermal equipment: a snowmobile suit, boots, mittens, helmet, balaclava, and woolen socks — all designed to keep you warm and dry.

Your guide will provide a safety briefing and driving instructions — and then you’re ready to hit the trail.

What's included?
    • Transfer from Levi to the safari house and back
    • Snowmobile gear: boots, overall, helmet, balaclava, woolen socks, mittens
    • Guided snowmobile safari along the private and public trails
    • Kids get to drive mini snowmobile by themselves in a designated area*
    • Stopover midway in a private hut with open fire

Standard price for adults is based on two persons sharing a snowmobile(driver + passenger) or riding in a sleigh. Riding in the sleigh is also a suitable option for adults who prefer not to drive — such as those traveling with children or elderly guests.

Older children (over 130 cm) may sit on the snowmobile behind an adult driver.

Solo driving is available for an additional supplement.

        Responsibility limitation and insurance notice:

        • Damages to snowmobiles

All snowmobiles used in our safaris are insured as required by Finnish law. Coverage is subject to the Finnish Motor Liability Insurance Act, related regulations, and applicable laws of Finland.

Clients participating in safaris are liable for damage caused to snowmobiles. The tour price includes accident insurance with a maximum deductible of €950 per driver. You can reduce the deductible to €350 by purchasing a waiver (€35). The waiver must be purchased at the time of booking online or in our office before the start of the safari.

If the driver does not follow the Finnish Road Traffic Act or the instructions given by our guide, all damages to the snowmobile must be paid in full (deductibles and waivers do not apply).

        • Personal injuries

Snowmobile programs can be physically demanding, and participants may be exposed to physical strain (for example, bumps along the route). Therefore, snowmobiling is not recommended for pregnant women or people with back problems.

If a Client has any illnesses or disabilities (such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, back or hip problems) that could affect their ability to participate, or if they are pregnant, they should consult medical experts before departure. Each participant is personally responsible for assessing their own ability to take part in the activity.

STG may only be held liable for personal injuries or material damage caused by negligence of STG, its employees, or subcontractors, or by faulty equipment, and only during the delivery of services under this Contract. STG is not liable for accidental injuries or damages that fall under the Client’s personal travel insurance. Comprehensive travel insurance is always strongly recommended.

        Practical information:

        • Finnish law requires snowmobile drivers to be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license (B, T, A1, or A). Drivers must carry their license during the safari, as police patrols also operate on snowmobile tracks.
        • Alcohol tolerance is zero. Finnish law strictly prohibits driving a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol. Drivers may be breathalyzed before departure. Participation will be denied if under the influence of alcohol; no refund applies.
        • The official speed limit for snowmobiles in Finland is 60 km/h; driving is only permitted on marked trails. Average snowmobile speed: 30–40 km/h (per safety regulations).
        • Two adults share one snowmobile unless a solo driving supplement is booked.
        • Passengers must be at least 130 cm tall and able to reach the footrests. Children under 130 cm ride in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile.
        • Safaris are not recommended for children under 3 years. Please contact us in advance if you plan to bring infants.
        • Sleighs (open-top, max. 8 persons) are always pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Small children must be accompanied by an adult.
        • As the responsible safari organizer, STG reserves the right to adjust routes, schedules, and durations of excursions if required by weather, safety, or participant comfort. STG also reserves the right to discontinue the safari if a participant is considered a danger to themselves or others or is in poor health.
        What to bring
          • Please take your driving license with you on the snowmobile safari as the police may check the validity of the license during the safari.
          • We recommend wearing thermal body-wear + multilayer clothing and woolen socks. You will get warm outer clothing and boots before the safari.
          • For those people who consider self-rental: out there you’ll be surrounded by almost total whiteness, so it’s quite easy to lose one’s way for the first time, that’s why to guarantee the quality time, we highly recommend for the first time to go on an organized safari with an experienced local guide.
